Height Fascination Hindering Good Will.

Yesterday I went to volunteer as an advocate at DPSS which is basically a place where low-income and indigent residents go to get government assistance. Sadly, a lot of claims get denied on technicalities so some of the legal aid clinics sponsor these volunteer days where volunteers go in and help clients understand the forms and advocate for their legal rights.

Anyway, I come from a very poor background so I am by no means judgmental toward or uncomfortable around people who are extremely poor. However, the room filled with primarily homeless men who were staring at me the whole time and occassionally cat-calling me made me rather uncomfortable.

It was one of the few times where I really wish I was not an extremely tall, blonde. I went there with the intention to help people, and instead I felt more uncomfortable in my skin than I have in a long time and couldn't wait to get out of there.

The reason they are all staring at you is because you are a stunning woman! That is nothing to get upset about. All beautiful women get that and you were somewhere where they probably come across very few beautiful women, particularly one who is also tall. When I am out with my sister, who I work for, nobody even notices me being there as everybody is staring at her! Can you imagine how that makes me fee?! Be happy with being stunning and enjoy it!!!

Very interesting blog you have! You extraordinarily honest, intelligent and humourous. I live in London. If when you are here and you have the time, I would love to meet with you. I am a transplanted New Yorker and live in South Kensington, which is more or less the residential center of London. They refer to it here as the "foreigners' ghetto" because hardly any English live in central London. Will you be working for one of the city law firms? I am a banker and work in the city (London equivalent of Wall Street). Best of luck and hopefully I can meet you! If not, I hope you have a great trip and enjoy London. Keep up the good work with your blog.
